Philosophy for Children & the Global Dimension Conferences

P4c ProjectRoom Of People

DECSY has hosted regional conferences for Primary and Secondary head teachers, teachers, teaching assistants, learning mentors, governors and ITE students and lecturers.

Our key note speaker for 2011 was Roger Sutcliffe, founding member of SAPERE, former President of ICPIC, the International Council for Philosophical Inquiry with Children, co-designer of an International GCSE entitled ‘Global Perspectives’.

In 2012 the conference was held in association with Sheffield Hallam University. The key note speaker was Joanna Haynes, an Associate Professor in Education Studies at the University of Plymouth and a former teacher in inner city Glasgow and Bristol. She is the author of 'Children as Philosophers' (2002, 2008).

In 2013 the theme of the conference was 'Critical and Creative Thinking' with Robert Fisher author of 'Teaching Thinking' as the Key Note speaker.

Our conferences offer practical, engaging workshops led by experienced practitioners in schools in South Yorkshire, as well as question and answer sessions with children from participating schools across South Yorkshire.

'It was great to have the combination of theoretical information with the more practical aspects of how to use P4C in the classroom.'
