Pupil Participation & Democracy in a Globalised World
A workshop format course aimed at KS2 and KS3, focusing on curriculum development, teaching and learning, development of whole school ethos, pupil behaviour and values. Depending on the agreed training needs, it will enable teachers to embed global learning through the curriculum particularly in relation to the new September 2017 Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development OFSTED requirements.Aims of the course:
- To critically consider how the government recommendation (and OFSTED guidance) to 'Promote British Values' support schools in their work on developing pupil voice and pupil understanding of democracy in a globally interdependent world.
- To understand the implications for SMSC within the school and how pupils can learn how to understand, accept, respect and include diversity.
- To use practical activities to explore why we want student participation, how students might participate, what the process might look like and how it might be improved.
The exact nature of the course will be determined through prior discussions with DECSY and will be tailored to the needs and priorities of the school.
